A domain name is a name that is easily memorized and is used to locate and identify computers on the Internet.
e.g. arn.gw; google.com; icann.org. -
To register your domain you may use entities that are specialised in this field, REGISTRARS, or submit a request directly at www.nic.gw.
-
No, when submitting a domain, it should be ensured that it does not form a prohibited domain or is not in conflict with third-party rights. Prohibited domains are those that might, namely:
a) Correspond to words or expressions contrary to law, public order or morality;
b) Correspond to any Internet top-level domain;
Top-level domain is understood to be any TLD (Top Level Domain) which has been assigned by ICANN – Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers and is, as such, part of the DNS Root Zone, managed by IANA – Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
c) Correspond to names that would mislead or cause confusion about their ownership, namely, by coinciding with notorious or prestigious trademarks that belong to another;
d) Correspond to any protocols, applications or Internet terminology, these being understood to be those defined by the IETF, The Internet Engineer Task Force;
e) Contain two hyphens «–» in a row in the third and fourth position;
f) Correspond to a geographical name.
Geographical name is understood to be any name, regardless of the language in which it is written, which coincides, namely, with:
a) Any alpha-3 code listed in the ISO 3166-1 standard;

The registrant of a .gw domain name guarantees that the registered name and its ownership do not conflict with established rights of others.
-
If the name you want to register is taken, you can:
a) Choose to register a different domain name;
b) If you are the holder of a previous right, turn to the Arbitration process if you believe that there is a dispute over that domain name and there are legitimate conditions to believe that it should be attributed to you.
-
It is not necessary to send any documentation with the registration, as the registrant assumes the responsibility for the information registered and for complying with the rules. With the a posteriori legal assessment, documentation may be requested to verify conformity, in accordance with the provisions of paragraphs 4 and 5 of article 3 of the Regulations.

No. The process for changing a domain name entails the removal of the previous domain and request of a new one.
-
Changes must be requested using the form available at Contacts.
-
Yes, although to do so you must send the declaration of cession/transferral duly issued by the current registrant, identifying the domain name, the current and new registrant.
-
In order to request a domain removal, use the form available at Contacts.
-
The amount due for the right of maintenance for two years, which covers the costs of registration, management and maintenance is 30.000 XOF.
-
It is sent a notification by mail with the amount and payment details. After confirmation of the bank transfer an invoice/receipt is sent in PDF format.
-
Failure to renew a domain by the end of its period of validity implies its expiry.
The ARN shall send an e-mail notification to the registrant’s address, thirty days in advance, informing him of the domain’s expiry date and bringing his attention to the possibility of renewing it using the renewal mechanism mentioned in that notification.

Internet Protocol version 6 or IPv6 (also previously referred to as IP new generation or IPng) is meant to support the continued growth of the Internet, both in terms of size and functions. In relation to IPv4, it provides a considerably larger address space, as well as other improvements. For further information about the DNS service in IPv6 see RFC 1886 at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/
rfc1886. -
DNSSEC is the name given to the security extensions to the DNS protocol and was created to protect and authenticate DNS traffic. These extensions seek to validate data by means of digital signatures, using asymmetric key-cryptography. For further information related with Doomain Name System Security Extensions see RFC 4033, 4034, 4035 at https://datatracker.ietf.org/

Yes, in this case it is applicable the Regulamento de Fiscalização, Sanções e Resolução de Conflitos, Decreto n.º 14/2010, de 22 de Setembro.

ARN only manages the .GW top level domain, so registration under .com, as well as any other TLD must be carried out with the accredited entities for this. For further information, go to the website http://www.iana.org.

There is no limit.
-
No, but the domain name will not be activated. For this, some name servers need to be correctly configured. If you do not have any technical knowledge on this matter you should contact a specialist in this field.
-
Their are free online tools available to support the domains technical configuration, it is called technical evaluators. With a simple introduction of the domain name and IP address/primary name server, it is possible to check if a domain is correctly configured even before submitting the information under the .GW register.

http://dnscheck.iis.se -
This is not directly related to our services. The service of .GW registration does not make the delegation of domains for web servers, but to name servers, so, the data provided in the system must relate to the name servers.
-
Before a domain can be used on a web page, e-mail or other services, it is necessary to have name servers configured for it. The web and e-mail servers will also have to be configured.
In most cases, the hosting provider provides service packs that include all these issues. The .GW service (registry) does not provide these services.
-
The .GW rules foresees that in the case of registrations of domain names solely for the purposes of reservation of the name, the maintenance process does not imply compliance with technical conditions, so in these cases, the domain is not visible on the internet and thus there are no services associated with it, such as web pages or e-mail.
Another possible scenario may be that the domain is delegated to the respective name servers, but does not have any web server set for it.
-
If the domain has just been technically evaluated with a positive result, the status changed to active, you should wait a few hours, in order that the domain is available on the Internet and its propagation is made. In this way, if properly configured the in the name servers, the services associates to the domain will become visible.
-
When the technical data of the primary DNS server (IP address or server name) is indicated, a manually technical evaluation is made for the respective domain. Within the configuration found, besides analysing the information relating to the primary itself, information about the secondary server(s) is also collected, in this way the system obtains the necessary data.
We alert to the fact that all secondary servers will also be evaluated and thus all must be correctly configured for the domain.
-
If there is change of the primary DNS server, it will require the indication of the new data (numeric IP address or e-names) using the Domain Registration form. If the primary name server does not change, but there are changes in the configuration in this server or the in the secondary server is necessary to make the change using the Domain Registration form.
